As a performer Christian Lindberg appears with the major international orchestras including Berlin Philharmonic, BBC and Chicago Symphonies. This season includes premieres of concerti by Mark-Anthony Turnage with the London Philharmonic (under Marin Alsop); Rolf Martinsson with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic (under Alan Gilbert); and he has just returned from the Gran Canaria Festival when he appeared with Finnish Radio and Sakari Oramo. At the insistence of the Northern Sinfonia Lindberg made his debut as a conductor in October 2000 and he has since developed this side of his career, conducting such orchestras as the Helsinki Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony, Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Sao Paulo Symphony. Future guest conducting engagements include the Residentie Orkest, Rheinische Philharmonie and Prague Symphony. Christian Lindberg's compositions for the trombone, including his trombone concerti Mandrake in the Corner and Arabenne, have been performed around the world with great success. In addition to the upcoming commissions for the Chicago Symphony and Scottish Chamber orchestras, commissions have included a Concerto for trumpet, trombone and orchestra from the Sion International Music Festival, Switzerland, a trumpet concerto for Scottish Chamber Orchestra, a flute concerto from the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, a trombone quartet for performance at the Wigmore Hall as part of the From Sweden project and a wind and percussion concerto commission by the World Association of Symphonic Bands premiered at the opening of their WASBE festival.
