Biography

François Chaplin now plays in many of the world’s capitals (Tokyo, Berlin, Moscow, Paris, Mexico…), appearing as a soloist with many fine orchestras. He appears regularly at important festivals, including La Roque d'Anthéron, St Bertrand de Comminges, Pontlevoy, Reims (Les Flâneries Musicales), Piano en Valois, Chopin Festival in Paris, Cervantino International Festival (Mexico), Yokohama International Festival (Japan), etc. This season, he is the guest of the Musée d’Orsay for 2 concerts “carte blanche à François Chaplin”, with Debussy concerts (2 pianos and chamber music).

These concerts were repeated at the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne. Last September, François Chaplin played a recital at the Theatre des Champs-Elysées at the same time of the publication of his last recording dedicated to Chopin, and the release of a CD box with all his Debussy recordings. In the summer 2008, among other recitals, François Chaplin played a successful recital at the festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, as well as concert at the Festival de Pontlevoy (Ravel with the Orchestre de Tours), la Hague, Les Serres d’Auteuil, Musique en Albret, Mercin, etc. In 2008/2009, he will play Salle Pleyel (Schumann, Pasdeloup Orchestra, dir. W. Doerner), in Norvay (at the Stavanger Philharmonie), Montréal (CAN), Budaperst, Chopin with the Orchestre de Tours , as well as recitals in some concerts’ series .

His concerts and recordings have met with great critical acclaim, and he has been described as ?one of the most original and engaging of all French pianists’. His sumptuous sound and great expressiveness and feeling make him a very fine interpreter of Mozart, as well enabling him to bring out the sombre moods of Brahms or the brightness of Debussy.
