Biography

In March 2006 Kira Simring was engaged by Connecticut Grand Opera to direct their Heroes, Monsters, and Myths a new show with music by Handel.
Ms. Simring has an extensive theater and musical theater resume, having directed works for The New School, The Actors Studio, Bank Street Theatre, Triple A Productions, American Theater of Actors, Waters Edge Writers, Slice of Life Theatre Co. and New Village Arts Theatre.
She is currently co-artistic director of the Cell Theatre Company in New York City.
She was born in Manhattan and grew up in New Jersey, received her MFA in Directing from the Actors Studio Drama School of New School University (Schubert Fellow) and a BA in Anthropology and Theatre from Smith College. Kira worked for the Red Ladder Theatre Company of the San Jose Repertory Theatre facilitating workshops with prisoners and underserved communities in the San Jose area and pioneered an experimental theatre company in San Francisco called Relevant Theatre Company.
