Biography

Kristinn Sigmundsson's repertoire is unusually broad, which is well demonstrated by the list of roles he sings/has sung at L'Opéra de Paris: Méphistophélès in both Charles Gounod's and Berlioz's works; Gurnemanz, Mustafa, König Heinrich, Zaccaria, Pogner, Basilio, Ferrando, Grande Inquisitore, Bartolo, Il Re di Scozia (Ariodante), Prince Gremin, Banco, Klingsor, Il Commendatore.

Recent engagements include: Commendatore in Munich; Méphistophélès in San Francisco; Gurnemanz in Paris; Baron Ochs in Cologne; Pogner in London; Alidoro in Dresden; Philippo in Stockholm; Hunding in New York; Mustafa and Basilio in Munich and Paris and Gurnemanz in Cologne and Florence.

Whilst future highlights include: Pogner, Daland, Basilio and Ferando in Paris; Sarastro in Houston; Hunding in Cologne and Naples; Philippo in Dresden; Gurnemanz in Barcelona; Mustafa in Vienna and Dresden; Baron Ochs in Dresden; Landgraf in Geneva and Frére Laurence in New York.

Kristinn Sigmundsson's concert repertoire is extensive, as is his international concert experience. He has worked with many of the world's best known conductors: James Levine, Riccardo Muti, Colin Davis, Haitink, Charles Mackerras, Christoph von Dohnányi, Tate, Christoph Eschenbach, Ivor Bolton and Marc Minkowski.

Kristinn Sigmundsson has recorded Don Giovanni (Il Commendatore) and Die Zauberflöte (Sarastro) with Arnold Östman, for Decca, and appears also on the DGG recording of Schreker's Die Gezeichneten. With Franz Brüggen, for Phillips, he has recorded both the Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and the Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and, with Philippe Herreweghe, Schumann's Faustszenen, for Harmonia Mundi.
