Kynan Johns: Resident Conductor to Music Director Lorin Maazel and Maestro Zubin Mehta at the new Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofia”, Valencia, Spain. Maestro Johns has established an enviable reputation throughout Europe, Australia, Israel and more recently America. Prize winner of the prestigious Dmitris Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition (2002), finalist in the Maazel/ Vilar International conducting competition (2002) and finalist in the 49th Besancon International Conducting competition (2005), Johns has conducted over 60 orchestras and opera companies throughout the world including the Israel Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and is deservedly regarded as a leading conductor of the younger generation.
As a regular assistant conductor to Maestro Lorin Maazel, Kynan Johns assisted on Maazel’s 1984 at Covent Garden (2005), was engaged by Maestro Maazel to conduct performances of Britten’s Turn of the Screw (2006) and in December of the same year, stepped in for him at late notice, to conduct Don Giovanni with great success in Valencia, Spain. Having conducted Don Carlos Madame Butterfly & 1984 in Valencia during the 2007-08 season, Maestro Johns will conduct there this season Luisa Miller, Faust & Turandot.
