Biography

David Walker, known for his expressively interpretive artistry and deeply connective dramatic sense, is highly sought after in operatic work ranging from the Baroque to the Contemporary. 

Some highlights of his career include: a noted performance of Bertarido in Handel's RODELINDA, opposite Renée Fleming, at the Metropolitan Opera; singing the title role in the North American premiere of Petitgerard's THE ELEPHANT MAN at Minnesota Opera (which he later reprised for the Parisian premiere in the prestigious Salle Pleyel at the invitation of the composer); the North American premiere of Jonathan Dove's FLIGHT, as the Refugee, at Opera Theatre of St. Louis (which he reprised at Boston Lyric Opera and at the Adelaide International Festival, Australia); the title role in Glass' AKHNATEN with Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg, France; Goffredo in Handel's RINALDO at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, Germany (filmed live and released on DVD); the title role in Handel's FLAVIO at NYCO and performances of Vivaldi’s JUDITHA TRIUMPHANS in Sydney, Australia (recorded live and released on CD on the ABC Classics Label).

In opera, oratorio, and orchestral performances on the world's most celebrated stages, David Walker continues to display the artistry which has earned him enthusiastic and international acclaim.

His honors include a 2006 Australian Helpmann Award Nomination, the 1999 ARIA (Awards Recognizing Individual Artistry) Award, winning the 1998 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a 1998 Sullivan Foundation Career Grant, and 1st place in the 1997 Florida Grand Opera Competition.
