Fabio Luisi
- Conductor
Biography
Fabio Luisi’s first meeting with the Staatskapelle Dresden was at the Salzburg Festival in 2002. Following his appointment in Dresden, the conductor has led the orchestra on successful tours throughout Europe and the US, as well as accompanying the entire company of Saxon State Opera on their highly acclaimed trip to Japan in 2007. In addition to the standard operatic repertoire (Wagner, Verdi, Puccini and Strauss), Fabio Luisi is particularly dedicated to performing the symphonic music of Mahler and Strauss. And, by initiating the annually-appointed position of «Capell-Compositeur» to the orchestra, he has ensured a stimulating input of new music. Luisi and the Staatskapelle are currently recording a complete new cycle of Richard Strauss’s orchestral works for Sony Music. The autumn of 2008 also saw the release of a live recording of Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony from the Semperoper.
Fabio Luisi has been awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Arts and Sciences, and in 2006 was decorated with the «Cavaliere Ufficiale» order of the Italian Republic.
