Jan Martiník was born in 1983 in Ostrava in the Czech Republic. He studied at Janáček's conservatory of Ostrava with Eliška Pappová. In June 2009 he won the Song Prize at BBC

Jan Martiník: During his time at conservatory he appeared in various roles as a guest  in the NDM Ostrava, such as Pistola (Falstaff), Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Truffaldin (Ariadne auf Naxos).
