Biography
Layla Claire, now a member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, opens her 2009-10 season with a gala performance at Opéra de Montréal, celebrating their thirtieth season. She also performs with San Francisco Symphony under the baton of Bramwell Tovey in their New Year’s Eve gala.
She opens the 2010 Tanglewood season as the soloist in Mahler’s fourth symphony, conducted by James Levine. Originally from Vancouver, Layla Claire has won awards from such esteemed organizations as the Eckhardt-Gramatté, Wilhelm Stenhammar, and Palm Beach Opera competitions. She is a CBC Radio-Canada Jeunes Artistes recital winner, and has received support from the J. Desmarais Foundation and the Canada Council.
