Biography

Other Maurizio Barbacini's previous productions include Manon Lescaut and La bohème at the Paris Opera; La Traviata and Aida at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Tosca at the Vienna State Opera; Madama Butterfly, Don Pasquale and Un Ballo in Maschera for the Bavarian State Opera; La Traviata and L’elisir d’amore at the Metropolitan Opera New York; Tosca, L’elisir d’amore, and Madama Butterfly for San Francisco Opera; and Manon Lescaut and Falstaff for Cincinnati Opera.


In 2009/10 Maurizio Barbacini conducts Don Pasquale at the Komische Oper Berlin, Lucia di Lammermoor for Frankfurt Opera, Carmen for New National Theatre Tokyo, and Il trovatore at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste. Maurizio Barbacini has made a number of recordings, including a disc of opera arias with Denyce Graves and the Munich Radio Orchestra which is available on the RCA Red Seal label.


Before becoming a conductor he enjoyed a successful career as a singer, and appeared as Gaston in Franco Zeffirelli’s film version of La Traviata.
