Biography

Thorsten Büttner was one of eleven singers to be chosen for the 1st Young Singer’s Project at the 2008 Salzburg Festival, which included opera and concert projects as well as master classes with Christa Ludwig, Thomas Quasthoff, Franz Grundheber and others. Opera roles include Aeneas/Dido and Aeneas, First Prisoner/Fidelio (at the Chiemgau Festival near Munich), Tamino/Magic Flute. For the Salzburg Festival 2008 he covered Tamino, Tybalt/Romeo et Juliette, Cassio/Otello and 1st Armed Man. Earlier this season, he joined the ensemble of De Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, singing Iskra/Mazeppaand 1st Philstine/Samson and Dalilah.

Roles in 2009/10 include Lensky/Eugene Onegin, Andres/Wozzeck, Yamadori/Madama Butterfly and Bob Boles/Peter Grimes. In concert, he has worked with Sir Roger Norrington, Ivor Bolton and the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg this summer, Andres Orozco-Estrada at the 2007 Styriarte Festival Graz, Heiko Mathias Förster and the Johann-Strauss-Orchester, in a repertoire that ranges from Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Rossini and Schubert to Cesar Franck and Viennese Operettta.
