Biography
VILPPU KILJUNEN's great break through came with Gounod's Faust at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 1999. Ever since he has worked a lot in Finland and Scandinavia. His main works at the Finnish National Opera have been La Fanciulla del West, Eugen Onegin and the world premier of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s opera Rasputin with Matti Salminen in the title role. The latest works include Carmen in Tampere, Finland, Rigoletto in Gothenburg, Forza del Destino in Bern and The Horse man by Aulis Sallinen in Savonlinna. With his Aleksis Kivi (Rautavaara) toured to Strassburg in France and Cosenza in Italy.
In spring 2009 he made a new Macbeth at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and in spring 2010 he will stage his first Un Ballo in maschera in Helsinki.
