The BUSONI ENSEMBLE was founded in 1994, inspired through the genial versatility of the pianist, composer and pedagogue Ferruccio Busoni. The ensemble is fascinated by works that, although modest in conception, offer grandiose chamber music for three stringed instruments and piano through their absolute perfection. The cosmopolitan influence of this widely traveled artist, who has deep roots in Germany, are mirrored in the international contributions of the other musicians, coming as they do from various points of the compass: Gemany, Switzerland and Poland. Works for piano quartet provide the basis of the repetoire. By describing themselves as an ensemble, the musicians hope to open ways to use the piano as the basis of other combinations, and to thereby establish a foundation for future cyclical performances of musical works for piano duos, trios and even beyond the piano quartet.
